THUNDER AND FOG

2009-2010

"Thunder and Fog is one example of recent sculpture-landscape architecture work, that stems in part from personal motifs generated by the high cliff structures that overlook my house and studio. The stream, Gallows Run, passes by my front door, courses along and merges with the Delaware River. Often effected by fog, this river and its moods, in counter measure to the cliffs that rise above it, have had a profound and long lasting influence on my work.

"By building a complex of tilting and curving walls, I have been able to support very specific placement of stones in coherent and tiered order. Certain meanders and openings in these landscape designs may be noticed to occur in my paintings, that reveal a lexicon that has been cultivated over the course of decades."

- Robert Ranieri, December 2009
